— The Weather Channel has acquired Weather Channel Sports and Technology Inc., a cable and satellite TV company that specializes in weather-related programming.
The purchase is subject to customary closing conditions.
The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021.
The Weather Channel acquired Weather Network, the leading weather service in the United States.
Weather Network is owned by the Hearst Corporation.
In a statement, Weather Channel President Mark Zaid said, “We have great ambitions for the company and our customers, and we are excited about the partnership with the Weather Channel.”
Zaid added that the company would continue to support Weather Channel and Weather Channel News and Weather.
The company said Weather Channel was a leader in weather information and services, providing weather and forecast information to businesses and consumers.
Weather Channel Sports has been in business since 1987 and is a leader for its segment, including providing live and on-demand weather coverage.
It is a member of the NBCUniversal Media Networks umbrella, which includes the NBC Sports Group, the NBC Network, and the NBC Outdoor Networks umbrella.
The combined company is expected have revenues of $2.5 billion in 2021.
