The Weather Channel says temperatures in Raleigh have dropped to -15 degrees in some areas, down from the average of 37 degrees.
The forecasted minimum for the day is 45 degrees.
Raleigh was one of several cities that saw record-breaking cold, with a temperature reading of -12 degrees on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature in the continental U.S. was -28 degrees on January 8, a record high.
The National Weather Center also said the nation’s winter storms were up by an average of 2.6 inches, with 1.2 inches in Raleigh.
