In the fall of 2017, the Little Rascals made headlines when the school announced it was pulling the team out of the NBA due to a “lack of interest” from its basketball operations.
After years of waiting, the team returned to the NBA and the Little Rio community took to social media to express their disappointment.
“This has been a long time coming, and we know it will be a long road,” Little Rio coach Michael Hill said.
“This will be the last time that the Little Riveras basketball team will play basketball at Little Rock Airport.”
The announcement of the LittleRascals departure sparked a series of community events.
Little Rock Mayor Bill McDermott sent a letter to NBA commissioner Adam Silver asking for the team to reconsider its move, and he sent a similar letter to the LittleRock Regional Airport Authority, which is a federal entity with the authority to license the airport.
Little Rock Regional and the Regional Airport were not immediately available for comment.
