How to stay safe on the beach this summer: Long Beach’s weather

It is the perfect time of year for a quick swim in the ocean, a quick dip in the pool, or a quick walk on the beaches in Long Beach, but with temperatures topping 50 degrees, there are some things to be aware of.

In Long Beach on Wednesday, August 13, 2017, a local resident, Daniella Perez, says she was watching a movie in her yard when she noticed a man in a black swimsuit swimming in the water and she called the police.

She told them she saw him get into a car and drive away, but she was able to get him back.

The police were able to identify the man from surveillance video and he was arrested.

Perez told KABC she has seen the same man before in Long Island and New York City.

She said she was afraid of the man because of his height and dark skin.

“I thought maybe he was a burglar,” she said.

The man, who Perez said is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 125 pounds, was taken into custody.

He is expected to be charged with felony possession of an explosive device.

The New York State Police said the man is being held at the Long Beach Regional Jail on $25,000 bail.ABC News’ Matt Boggs contributed to this report.
